Day 348 - Sunday, April 9th: Last night a very strong cold front that had been sweeping down across the southeast went through.  We had high winds and very heavy ("severe") thunderstorms.  Thank goodness we were in a very protected harbor.

We got up this morning and, after a pumpout, headed downstream (north) on the St. Johns River.  We crossed Lake Monroe and returned to the winding deep and narrow waters.  It was very windy after the cold front, and predictions called for it to stay this way for three days.

We passed the same row of houseboats as we remarked about when we were going south.  Nothing seems to have moved.

And we passed the cypress clump again.  Those blobs in the tops of the trees are nesting birds:

Now this is a test: Does the house over the boat slip appear to be tilting to the right?  It does to us:

No, we weren't holding the camera crooked.  Here's a second picture:

We passed under a bridge in a little town we didn't know the name of and figured out what everybody in the town does on Sunday afternoon:

We continued to see alligators; this one didn't sink quickly like so many do.  He was about seven feet long:

After only a few hours of cruising, we reached our destination for the night, River Forest Loop.  This is a "loop" of water made when they dredge a cut around a sharp curve in the river.  The traffic goes through the cut, leaving a nice backwater for anchoring.  This loop was shaped like a "V."  One leg looked like this:

The other leg looked like this:

Sadly, behind us someone was building a house.  Not today.  It's Sunday:

It was a very pleasant anchorage.  If you care, it is near the little village of River Forest.  Try to find THAT on a map..

The wind finally calmed down for the night and we slept quite well.

Position tonight: N29 01.132 W081 23.700
